Code of Ethics
ATRA Code of Ethics & Member Pledge
For Rebuilder Members of the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association
As members of ATRA, we commit to the following standards of professional conduct to ensure integrity across our industry and provide peace of mind to the motoring public.
1. Honest Diagnostics
We pledge to diagnose transmission issues with expertise and honesty. We will only recommend removing a transmission from a vehicle when it is truly necessary to resolve the problem.
2. Inter-Shop Cooperation (The Golden Rule)
We pledge to provide prompt and courteous diagnostic services to customers of other ATRA member shops.
- Basic Diagnosis: Provided free of charge.
- Electronic Testing: Members may charge up to one hour of diagnostic time (at the current Golden Rule rate) for electronic scanning, provided the warranting member agrees to the fee in advance.
3. Professional Integrity
We pledge to act with integrity and communicate responsibly. In all dealings with the public and our competitors, we will adhere to the Golden Rule: treating others as we wish to be treated.
4. Quality Standards
We are dedicated to elevating the transmission repair industry by maintaining the highest standards for both parts and workmanship at our places of business.
5. Continuous Education
We commit to the ongoing training of ourselves and our staff. We will stay current with evolving industry technology through regular testing and certification to ensure our shops remain staffed by capable experts.
6. Defining a "Rebuild"
We pledge that any transmission assembly represented as "rebuilt" to a customer or fellow member has been processed strictly according to the ATRA Rebuilding Standards and Definitions outlined in the Association By-Laws.
